A few facts for you!
- According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2012, 7% of all children aged 0-17 years have a disability and only 50% of school children with a disability receive additional support including tuition, and access to counsellors or support workers;
- In 2014-15 more than 307,412 carers accessed funded support services such as respite, counselling, peer support and advocacy through the Department of Social Services;
- In 2012 2.7 million Australians were carers (12%) with 770,000 (3.4%) identified as primary carers;
- According to recent research, parents and caregivers of a child with a disability are seeking support and assistance in some key areas.These areas have been defined in key points of focus known as the Focus Five’S:
